New Hearts

Ezekiel 36:26

It is God's plan to replace the wicked and cold heart of stone that we have naturally and give us a heart like His. Psalm 37:4 says "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."

When you submit to His lordship and delight yourself in Him he gives you the desires of your heart because your heart has been changed. It has been replaced with a heart that aligns with His. This has been a constant prayer of mine for many years. I want to have that heart of flesh! I want to love others the way that God loves them and the way He loves me!

Continue to search your own heart and study the Word daily with a humble heart and mind. Putting Him as the Lord of your life will be the best decision you make!

Prayer

Lord God, please continue rejuvenating our hearts and making them hearts of flesh that long for the same things you long for. Take our hearts of stone from us and give us hearts of flesh. Help us to see others the way you do. I pray this in Jesus' name, Amen!

Yesterday's devotion may have left you feeling discouraged about the state of your heart. However, I want to share what the Word of God says about this. "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." (Ezekiel 36:26 NKJV) It is God's plan to replace the wicked and cold heart of stone that we have naturally and give us a heart like His. Continue to search your own heart and study the Word daily with a humble heart and mind. Putting Him as the Lord of your life will be the best decision you make!

Wicked Hearts

Jeremiah 17:9

Today's devotion comes from a concept we talk a lot about on the football field. We live in a world that will continuously tell us that our feelings are always valid and that we need to follow our hearts (feelings). The Bible says otherwise! "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?" -Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV Your feelings and your "heart" are going to point you to what is comfortable and safe, dare I include that your heart will guide you toward sin. I know mine does. Feelings and desires on their own will lead to your destruction. On the football field it's like this: Human nature is to avoid danger and conflict. Football is full of both so, we must train ourselves not to listen to our feelings or allow our feelings to dictate our next action. We teach our athletes to be strong and courageous.(Joshua 1:9) Off the field it is like this: As a husband and father, I have responsibilities to provide and protect my family. There are days, even seasons, where I'd rather focus on myself. The world often tells us to do this very things. The Bible contradicts this in 1 Timothy 5:8 saying "But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." Above and beyond just the basic necessities of life, I believe we are called to much more and given this encouragement by the Apostle Paul. "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him [Christ Jesus] who loved us." (Romans 8:37 NKJV). We should be conquering each day instead of just surviving or just getting through it. When faced with worldly "wisdom" to follow your heart, pause and reflect on these verses. We'll continue this discussion tomorrow with some more practical steps and verses to guide us despite our wicked hearts.

The Most Ignored Commandment

Matthew 6:33-34

In this passage, Jesus commands us not to worry about tomorrow. I don't know about you but that's a difficult task for me. I've always found it easier said than done. However, I believe this command relieves me of any duty to perform. He is saying to keep things simple and seek first His Kingdom, His Righteousness, and that HE will take care of the rest of our NEEDS. Jesus understands that we have physically needs such as food, shelter, and clothing. He does a fantastic job of taking care of the needs of the birds and creatures outside and how much more does he love us. In our Daily Bible reading, we see in Genesis 1 that God said mankind is very good. So good, in fact, that He was willing to die for us to save us and keep us with Him for all of eternity. I encourage you today to take small steps to remind yourself in the little things as well as the big things that we are to seek first HIS kingdom, and HIS righteousness and that He wants to provide those needs for us.
